What is a Peer-to-Peer network I hear you ask?
Well let me start by explaining to you in laymans terms, then we can move on to creating one step-by-step.
a peer-to-peer (P2P) network is a network of two or more computers that allow each user to control their own desktop and what to share with connected devices. This way of networking does not require any logon input, no security control, no maintaining and the files do not have to be stored on a central client/server. There are lots of advantages and disadvantages of peer-to-peer networking but it is a preferred method of file sharing within a small business that does not hold any important or sensitive information.
Now on to creating and configuring a network.
(The pictures below are in the correct order to guide you through the process)
Step 1: Connect the computers with a cross over cable and then power on the systems.
Step 2: Set up a user account.
Step 3: Create a folder which you can share with other users.
Step 4: Open network settings & go into properties (local area network connection settings).
Step 5: Select and double click on the internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
Step 6: Configure the IP address on each computer making sure the IP addresses are as follows;
Step 8: Go back to the folder you created and open it's properties to enable sharing & click share with everyone.
Step 9: Put a file into the shared folder and VOILA!!!... You have sucessfully created a P2P network and shared your first file!
